Video games have been around for almost 50 years now and have grown into an entertainment industry bigger than movies and music put together. The industry has evolved in many ways over the last 10 years with mobile being the dominant platform. 

There are now games to suit every demographic and taste, it's no longer just about kids and young adult males playing first person shooters. Next time you're on a train or a bus have a look at who is playing a game on their smartphone. 

On average people spend around 30 minutes a day playing games on their smartphones. Of course they play in many other ways too.

We have been designing and creating games for business's since 2001. Games can be a powerful business tool in themselves. They can be used in many ways:

The idea of gamification has been around for a long time. The term itself originated back in 2002, but only really started getting traction in 2008 from when interest has continued to grow.

What is Gamification?

Game designers use a whole range of different design tools and methodologies. Gamification is when you use some of these for something which is not a game. They can include:

    • Points and reward systems
    • Leaderboards
    • Achievements and Badges
    • Storytelling
    • Avatars
    • Virtual currencies, items and economies
    • Challenges, quests and missions
    • Competition, Collaboration and Community
    • Surprise and Delight
    • Performance Feedback
    • Nudges
    • Collectables

You can apply Gamification in an almost unlimited number of ways and it can help solve any number of different business problems.

If you are think that your business could benefit from a game or gamification software then our Collaborative Design Process might be the best first step. 

The aim of the process is to develop a detailed concept, fully costed with a business case.

The process has three stages:

    1. Discovery
    2. Collaborative Design
    3. Concept Development


In the discovery phase we get to know your organisation, your target audience and the outcomes you're looking for. Key to this stage is agreeing how the project will be measured and what the performance targets are.

Collaborative Design

This is where we teach you how to be game designers. In a really fun design workshop over 2 or 3 days we work with your team to create one or more draft concepts. We follow the 3RD SENSE Design Process.

Concept Development

During this final phase, the team at 3RD SENSE take the draft concept and develop that into a fully thought through presentation which incorporates:

    • Premise and purpose of the concept
    • Wireframes and user journeys
    • Concept Visual Designs
    • A full cost breakdown with justification
    • A Roadmap
    • A draft project plan
    • A top level business case

We ll provide you with everything you need to make an informed decision about the project.
